TRAFFIC DELAYED; PEDESTRIAN STRUCK
Spring 2024
Pamphlet, video
In Chattanooga, there has been a drastic uptick in pedestrians being hit and killed by cars in the last few years. In 2021 alone, there were 112 pedestrians struck by vehicles in Hamilton county (via Tennessee Highway Safety Office). This points to a failing system and broken street design, and little has been done about it. This presentation provides a map with headlines from articles reporting pedestrian deaths over the last three years, along with a video which shows the daily movement of life throughout each space. By providing these three direct ties together, the viewer is immersed into the world in which these violent deaths have occurred, and subjected to the wide range of headlines and rhetoric in the conversations publicly surrounding these deaths, leading to the question: who should be held responsible for preventing further deaths of this nature?
