Amber Bassford (American, b. 2003) loves her phone. She also hates her phone. Recently, Bassford has been exploring how our lives have become centralized around our digital habits. The line between the online world and the real world has become indiscernible. Consequently, our own definitions of self have evolved and devolved alongside our overconsumption of online content.

Analyzing, documenting, and experimenting with social media platforms have become a pivotal part of Bassford’s process and most recent work where she interrogates the creation of content, online interaction between individuals, and the role of artificial intelligence. She often uses simple observation to draw attention to what may otherwise be overlooked.

Currently, Bassford is a senior pursuing a BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, works in marketing at a local nonprofit and as a freelance designer. Her work can be found in 0613 FOCUS (2025), Slug Magazine Montreal (2025), Sequoya Review (2024), and in her undergraduate thesis show at the Institute for Contemporary Art Chattanooga, on display from April 9-19, 2025.
